I can break anything…

like my iPhone.

Had a strange problem with the iPhone. I had a lot (like 600+ a lot) of photos “stuck” on the phone. That is, no matter what I did, I couldn’t delete them from the iPhone. And even worse, I had about 3 or 4 duplicates in iPhoto of these “stuck” photos. Lovely.

I suspect that if you don’t delete your phones every time you sync, you too could enjoy this sneaker feature.

To delete the “stuck” photos—and since my iPhoto library was backed up and I hadn’t done any real customizing with it… oh and it was hosed with all the duplicate photos — I figured I could just delete all the iPhoto files my Documents folder on the Mac and re-sync the iPhone. Indeed this worked.

However, this ‘fix’ hosed the iPhone’s camera. But it was even worse than that. The iPhone camera appeared to function correctly… framing the picture, making the ‘shutter’ sound, doing some cool 3D effect as the ‘picture’ got sucked into the Photo Library icon in the lower left corner of the display, etc. etc… but upon going into the Photo Library (that is, going into the Photo Library after shooting about 10 pics I really wanted) reveled only blank, little, white boxes were the picture thumbnails should have been. Lovely.

The fix is easy. All you have to do is hose all the data and customization on your iPhone… with the exception of your contacts, calendar and seemingly some network settings (these actually sync during the iPhone’s ‘sync’ process). Notes, SMS history, home screen bookmark icons, map bookmarks (doh!), weather settings, clock, alarms, etc. etc. — buh bye.

ps. I can’t remember where I found the information on fixing the iPhone’s camera, so no link love. Addendum: Say ‘buh bye’ to the iPhone’s browser history. Lovely.
